Together with our colleagues in India, we have built up a small network of local production partners. We produce in southern India, in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, where the largest growing areas of the areca palm are. Around three billion leaves fall from the palm trees in India every year. In the past, they were often incinerated as agricultural waste, but in recent years a growing small industry has developed that processes the raw material into plates and bowls.
